Letterpress Resources

This list of letterpress resources is not intended to be exhaustive. By linking to the informational websites below, you can link to practically ever other online letterpress resource available. As for supplies, I have just listed my favorite companies. Again, the informational sites listed can link you to MANY other suppliers.

Information | Equipment and Supplies

Letterpress Information Resources
American Amateur Press Association

Membership organization with lots of letterpress resources.

Briar Press

Amazing source of information regarding letterpress printing and equipment. Has an excellent classified section, as well as a virtual museum of letterpress equipment.

Introduction to Letterpress Printing in the 21st Century

Another wonderful resource. It is written in paragraph form, which can make finding what you're looking for a little more difficult.

Kelsey Printing Manual Online

This site is THE source of information and instructions for printing on a Kelsey.

Letpress List

Sign up here to join the letterpress discussion list. Sometimes cantankerous, but LOTS of great information.

Philobiblon Letterpress Links

This is a small part of the HUGE Book Arts Web, which lists zillions of books arts links. The letterpress section not only lists equipment and supply resources, but also lots of small presses printing exclusively on letterpress.

PPLetterpress

A forum on digital type and the photopolymer plate process, as well as other investigative letterpress printing and typographic techniques. Also has lots of links to photopolymer resources.

The Printer

Excellent letterpress newspaper - lots of ads and helpful articles. Email Michael Phillips for information on subscribing.

SFLetterpress

Letterpress discussion list for printers in the San Francisco bay area.

Letterpress Equipment and Supplies
Boxcar Press

Great source for bases (not magnetic), photopolymer plates (both steel and adhesive backed) and information on printing with photopolymer. Harold is very helpful and knowledgeable.

M and H Type

Type foundry AND fine press (Arion Press). Not only do they make type, they also offer deesign services and photopolymer platemaking.

NA Graphics

Not only one of THE best sources for letterpress supplies, but Fritz is also one of the most friendly and knowledgeable people in the business. He bought out the remaining stock of Kelsey and Vandercook, so this is a great source for parts. He also sells lots of printing manuals. Great Prices.

Octagon Digital Media

One of Octagon's many services is making film for photopolymer plates. The prices are good, the service is first-rate and they are FAST. I wouldn't get my films made any place else.

SFCB Equipment Exchange

The San Francisco Center for the Book has section on their website for people to list equipment and supplies wanted or for sale.
